A horrifically tragic Australia Day 2020, as we learned of the passing of Kobe Bryant, his precious daughter and 7 additional passengers. Devastatingly sad news on one of the greatest competitors ever, life is way too short and precious. Hug your loved ones, as our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Vicmead Silver
S2 attended its first ever event in Delaware, as the Vicmead Silver was hosted between Wilmington Country Club and Vicmead Hunt Club in DE. We had 12 S2ozzies in action, whilst 62 attended training at home base over the weekend. Rarely do the 25th and 26th of January fall onto a weekend, but the excitement of the new decade in 2020 continued at S2, as owners Paul and Lyall celebrated the biggest holidays in their respective countries, whilst propelling our S2ozzies into success. Saturday was Burns Day in Scotland, a huge annual celebration for arguably the most famous Scot ever, an iconic poet from 1700’s. The Burns Supper immediately runs into Australia Day which always follows on the 26th, Australia’s 4th of July equivalent.
1,2,3,4th place finishes and more than half of S2 participants reach the semis!
A massive well done to underdog Alec S for winning his 2nd consecutive U15 Silver title. Once again, the up and coming superstar continued his historic start to the new decade and left as the champion. This time, he defeated S2 team mate Ronak in the semis, before defeating the number 1 seed, who was ranked 40+ places higher, 3-1 in the final.
Our finalists were Henrietta and Omar, who came so close to joining Alec atop the podium. Omar had the win of his life in the semi final against the top seeded player, rated 0.3 higher… whom he shocked 3/0. Henrietta had an impressive 3/1 semi final victory, but couldn’t replicate her top performance and joined Omar in 2nd place, receiving Silver medals.
3 finalists and 3 semi finalists, made it a weekend to remember. Sofia won 3rd place in the GU13’s, before Ronak and Max took home the Bronze Medals in the BU13 and BU15 divisions respectively. Also, big shout outs and congratulations to James who won his first Consolation title in the BU13 Final, showcasing al his recent improvements made in Gold SAS and Squads. Kevin, who played up to U15 (despite being only 12 years of age), reached the Consolation Final, before Amelia and Maya had an All S2 showdown in the Consolation Play Off, Amelia winning 3/1. Lastly, Rohith celebrated a huge comeback win on Saturday evening agonist a school rival and showcased real improvement over the weekend.
